X-Ray Optics Activity

Our main mandate is to develop optics for vacuum ultra violet, soft x-ray and hard x-ray region with specific application to develop optical elements for Indus-1 and Indus-2 synchrotron source. In addition to grazing incidence optics, a well-defined program has been started to make the x-ray multilayer optics.  Different systems for coating the x-ray optical devices have been designed and fabricated.  For surface and interface characterization, an x-ray reflectivity facility is developed.  Different kinds of research have been pursued to understand the behavior of various material combinations at the interfaces.  Studies on Pt/C, Ni/C, Mo/C, Mo/Si, and W/C x-ray multilayers have been carried out. For characterization of x-ray optical elements, VUV/soft x-ray reflectometry facility has been setup on Indus-1.
