The beam transport line for the FEL has two parts: a low energy part employing solenoids to transport a 90 keV beam from the thermionic electron gun to the linac entrance, and a high energy beam transport line consisting of dipoles, quadrupoles and steering magnets for the relativistic beam from the linac exit to the entrance of the undulator, with matched beam parameters. Based on design simulations for the transport line for the CUTE-FEL, all required magnets have been developed and characterized. The transport line itself is currently being commissioned.
Design studies have been completed for another transport line for an IR-FEL that is scheduled to come up in the near future.
In addition to this activity, there is interest in the group in the study of permanent magnet quadrupoles and combined function quadrupole magnets. |
