Vacuum Seals for Demountable Joints in Indus-2

The various flange configurations used in INDUS-2 include: helicoflex seal, conflat seal and diamond seal. Helicoflex seals are used in the dipole magnet chambers, diamond seals in straight section chambers and conflat flanges in RF shielded gate valves, pumps, gauges etc, in general.

A highly reliable and very low cost UHV compatible Al-alloy gasket called “diamond seal” have been designed and developed for connecting straight section Al-alloy vacuum chambers (homogeneous joints) as well as straight section vacuum chambers to auxiliary UHV hardware (with flanges made of Stainless Steel) like pumps, gauges, ceramic chambers, bellows etc (heterogeneous joints). Material of construction for these seals is Al6063-T5. So far, more than 500 seals of various sizes have been successfully produced and are in use.
