The magnetic lattice of the storage ring (Indus-1) has four super
periods, each consisting of a dipole magnet and two pairs of focussing and
defocussing quadrupoles. Indus-1 is designed to extract the synchrotron
radiation mainly from the bending magnets. It is planned to install a 3
Tesla superconducting wiggler to bring down the critical wavelength to 31
angstroms. The lattice is designed to have flexibility in operation of
the ring and to have stor ed beam with different specifications. In order
to achieve a beam life time of a few hours, the pressure in the chamber
containing the beam is kept below 1E-9 torr. Indus-1 has a centralized
control system. The hardware is based on 16 bit data bus employing VME bus
standards. Beam parameters are characterized by beam di agnostics devices.
